Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day everybody!  It is a wonderful day of the year as we celebrate our freedom, and the foundations of our country.  On this day in 1776, our country's founding fathers committed treason to England and true patriotism to the USA by standing up for something they knew to be right.  Let us never forget how brave they all were and what this country stands for.  It is about the government having to answer to the citizens, it is about the people having the power.  Let us not forget who this country belongs to.

The picture above is of my front yard.  My flags are little, but my pride is big!  I have also been working very hard to try to the grass to look decent and you can also see my Bartlett pear tree that I planted this spring!

It is a beautiful day here on the Palouse.  I have been busy doing all kinds of fun stuff today.  I watered my gardens and yard before it got too hot.  I cleaned out my really big freezer that I just got at an auction for only $90!  Then I made a great lunch of grilled chicken sandwiches, tater tots, and salad made from lettuce freshly picked out of the back yard garden.  Now I am going to go fly a kite, because it is very windy out today.  Then tonight will consist of some more grilling, fun, and fireworks.  I hope all of you enjoy your Independence Day as well!

Here is an updated picture of my garden.  From left to right: Two rows of corn (only some it is knee high by July), peppers that have only just popped out of the ground, cucumbers, onions, potatoes, and tomatoes (which haven't actually appeared yet, I may have to replace that row with beans or peas).  The row in the back perpendicular to the rest is sunflowers, which are growing very quickly.

  1. Just got caught up with the blog, love the Bartlett pear tree! The garden seems to be coming along too. Just a heads up on planting sunflowers in a veggie garden, their roots have some alleopathic qualities that can adversely affect the growth of some plants close to them. After I heard about this I stopped growing them in my veggie garden. Just check it out on the web. Keep the pics coming:)
Take care, Diane B. (I must be signed as mom)

    1. Thanks for reading! I am very excited about my garden. Thanks for the info. I guess it is too late this year to not grow sunflowers, but I will look into that for next year. Their purpose is mainly to provide some privacy from the bike path only a couple feet away so nobody is tempted to grab any of my veggies when they pop up! Keep reading, I'll keep updating. Including an update for my trip to Glacier with Mike and Caroline this weekend!
